

Vietnam holds ground in Natural Wonders selection

Famous artists joined a ceremony in HCM City on January 20 to call for Vietnamese people’s votes for Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha – Ke Bang and Fansipan Mountain as new Natural World Wonders.
The selection of seven Natural World Wonders by the NewOpenWorld organization has entered its second phase. Now, the global population will select seven of the 168 nominated sites from 76 countries.
The US has the highest number of nominated sites, 17, while South America is the continent with the most nominees, 51. Vietnam had three sites in the top 21 as of January 14, 2008 (Ha Long Bay – 7th, Phong Nha – Ke Bang (8th) and Fansipan Mountain (12th).
The voting on http://www.new7wonders.com will close on December 31, 2008. The list of the top 21 wonders will be announced in January 2009. After that the next phase will be conducted with the seven top wonders voted on, the winners will be announced in the summer of 2010.
